If hearing aids are recommended as part of your treatment plan, then a thorough discussion of various options will be discussed. Dr. Philip will program the aids based on a prescription to meet your hearing needs. A comprehensive instruction on how to use the hearing aids will be given at that time. If a 3rd party is in attendance with the patient, they will also be given pertinent hearing aid information as well.
For those that are fit with the hearing aids (especially with their first pair of hearing aids) there may be different emotions about the sounds you hear. This is normal and to be expected as your brain and ear have not heard like this “in a long time” and reasonable and realistic expectations will be discussed as well. Consider the analogy of wearing glasses and how different it was the first time and the gradual adjustment of wearing them—this is true for hearing aids!
We work with all the major hearing aid manufacturers—every person is different and it’s Dr. Philip’s experience working with patients that each person’s hearing needs are unique and that not one hearing aid manufacturer is good for everyone
Your hearing aid fitting is only a starting place; other changes to customize the hearing to your liking may need to take place over a few appointments, as you wear the hearing aids in more situations and adapt to all the new sounds you are hearing. Positive motivation and mindset are one of the important keys to success with hearing aids. Hearing aid studies have shown that people who have a positive attitude do better with hearing aids.
As part of the hearing aid fitting appt, “Real Ear” Live speech mapping measurements are done and helps to provide more accurate programming of hearing aids, provides immediate and tangible results, as well as increase successful outcomes of fittings. Utilizing various prescription strategies, these measurements are important to verifying that the hearing aids are working in accordance with the client’s hearing test results.
